Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have done for us. We thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of creation, and for the mystery of love.

We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for the loving care which surrounds us on every side.

We thank you for setting us at tasks which demand our best efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight us.

We thank you also for those disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone.

Above all, we thank you for your son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying through which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom.

Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know him and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things.
Amen.

dear +mariann, thank you for this today of all days. my heart rejoiced at the time of your consecration. and as the zulu people in our south african anglican congregations say to each other even in the darkest moments: god is good. and the response is: all the time. god is good. i read recently that muslims don't actually say: god is great (i.e. our god is bigger than your god...) but "god is greater" - as in greater than any present catastrophe. thank you for your reminder and for your witness. under the mercy, eliza (in durban)

I have always loved that prayer. Thank you for reminding me of it.. It also reminds me of Robert Louis Stephenson's prayer on Success. Happy Thanksgiving, Rona

Dear Bishop Marianne, Thank you for prayer. Last night I drove somewhere and I got lost. I did get found. But made realize what rut I'm living in ....I rarely drive places that I don't know. It seems that I have many things to be thankful. Getting lost and finding my way. . I need to challenge myself. My friends and family, church, my home and my Service Dog. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sally Slater

This is one of my favorite prayers. I have found it very comforting the past few weeks as I slog through end of semester papers and projects. Blessings and best wishes for all this Thanksgiving season, especially those who are struggling due to the recent storms, ongoing economic problems, or for other reasons. Continued thanks Bishop Mariann for your prayerful leadership and guidance as our Bishop. God Bless.
