“Come ye apart and rest awhile”
DIOCESAN RETREAT COMMITTEE
ADVENT SILENT RETREAT
December 5-7, 2008

The Diocesan Retreat Committee (DRC) invites you to its 2008 Advent Silent Retreat at Washington National Cathedral’s Cathedral College, 3510 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, DC. This year’s Advent Silent Retreat will begin on Friday, December 5, and conclude on Sunday, December 7, 2008.

The theme of the retreat will be “The Lord said to Moses 'Why do you cry out to me? Tell the people to get moving!'”

Rev. John Carleton HaydenThe Rev. John Carleton Hayden, Ph.D., J.C.D. will lead the retreat to inspire and equip Retreatants for a more proficient and risky discipleship for today’s world by weaving together identity, conversion, freedom, and vocation; drawing upon the biblical account of Moses.

Fr. Hayden is an insightful and passionate retreat preacher who draws upon his rich experience as a pastor, teacher, scholar, and world traveler. He has conducted retreats for university students, high school students, The Community of St. Mary’s Sewanee Province, and The Poor Clare’s of Reparation. He has also lead and conducted quiet days for the Daughters of the King and many parishes. Fr. Hayden currently serves as Honorary Assistant Rector at St. George’s Episcopal Church. He also serves on the Diocesan Council and on the boards of Kanuga Conferences and The Washington Episcopal School.

The retreat will begin on Friday, December 5th with registration at 5:00 PM followed by a fellowship gathering at 5:30 PM. It will end after the noon meal on Sunday, December 7th. Rev. Hayden will nourish our spirit by delivering five meditations based on the retreat theme. We will cultivate our sense of communion with God through prayer, private reflection, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. There will also be opportunities to sign up for consultation or confession with the Rev. Hayden.

The suggested fee for the Advent Silent Retreat is $195 and includes the cost of a private room for 2 nights and 6 meals at the Cathedral College. Scholarships are available. Download the scholarship application form (PDF) to apply. The fee only covers 65% of actual costs. We ask those with ample means to graciously help defray the cost by increasing their giving beyond the suggested fee. Your generous gift helps the DRC continue its ministry to those with limited financial resources.
