CathedralLenten Silent Retreat: March 2-4, 2007
“What Wondrous Love is This:
The Collects of Lent”

The Diocesan Retreat Committee (DRC) invites you to its 2007 Lenten Silent Retreat at Washington National Cathedral’s Cathedral College, 3510 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, DC.

Reservation Form [pdf]
(must be received by Fri., Feb. 2)
Scholarship Form [pdf]

The theme of the retreat will be “What Wondrous Love is This: The Collects of Lent.” Most of the time the Sunday collects are experienced like a passing train. We pause and feel the swoosh of it but never get a chance to see what is inside. Participants in this year's Lenten Retreat will stop and listen closely as the carefully crafted words of the five Lenten collects reach from the depth of God's love to the heart of what it means to be human.

The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Wade will lead the retreat. Rev. Wade is a graduate of The Citadel and the Virginia Theological Seminary who has served as an Episcopal priest since 1966. After serving congregations in his native West Virginia for seventeen years, he was called as Rector of St. Alban’s Parish on the grounds of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. He served that congregation from 1983 until his retirement in 2005. His sermons have been published in a variety of anthologies. He has been married to the former Mary Jane Criss since 1963. They have two children and four grandchildren.

The retreat will begin on Friday, March 2nd with registration at 5 p.m. followed by a fellowship gathering at the Cathedral College at 5:30 p.m. It will end after the noon meal on Sunday, March 4th. Retreatants may join in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Saturday and Sunday mornings and participate in Morning and Evening prayer and Compline. There will also be opportunities to sign up for consultation or Confession with the Directors.

The fee is $195 for a private room of 2 nights and 6 meals in the Cathedral College. This fee covers only about 65% of actual costs. We ask those with ample resources, to help us continue the DRC ministry to those with limited financial resources by increasing their giving beyond the suggested fee. (Your additional gift is tax-deductible).

The DRC Executive Committee (EC) reserves the right to decline applications for retreats or place applicants who have made a number of retreats with us in the past on a waiting list. The EC may also exercise discretion over admissions based on other priorities. Deposit checks are returned to applicants in the event they are declined.

To reserve your space, please return the reservation form (see above) and deposit of $100 (or the total amount) to:
