Senior Ministries
The Diocese is home to a number of resources and services that support and involve older adults; help sort through retirement options for those approaching retirement age; provide direction for families who care for older adults; and offer networking and educational opportunities for professionals in the field of aging.
Episcopal Senior Ministries (ESM) (link to www.esm.org ) has been designated as the organization which provides leadership and coordination of aging services in the Diocese. A covenant [PDF] between the Diocese and ESM outlines the relationship. Each year goals for the covenant [PDF] specifically address priorities and activities.
ESM's outreach to parishes is coordinated through the Parish Volunteer Services program. Parish Volunteer Services (http://esm.org/parish/index.html) works in partnership with all the Episcopal congregations in the Diocese of Washington to address the issues of aging and develop ministries for, with and by seniors.
