St. Anna's Home Fund
Saint Anna’s Home, Inc. is a charitable program of the Diocese of Washington. It carries out the charitable and benevolent wishes of the Rev. Aexander Crummell, one of the first African-American priests in the Episcopal Church.
Crummell’s will provided for the establishment of the first home which opened in 1928. The home closed in 1941 and the proceeds from the sale established what is now Saint Anna’s Home, Inc.
What We Do
From time-to-time, Saint Anna’s Home, Inc. awards grants to not-for-profits which serve people-in need. To date, over 1.5 million dollars have been given to charitable institutions in the metro area.
In 2009, the board launched a new grant for individuals. The Pitts Emergency Grant is a one-time grant, awarded on a case-by-case basis. Priority is given to a woman who is at least seventy years old and who meets other criteria.
The Legacy Lives
The work of Saint Anna’s Home, Inc. is to keep alive the legacy of the Rev. Alexander Crummell by being responsible stewards. Saint Anna’s portfolio of about 3 million dollars is managed by its Board of Directors whose members are drawn from parishes in the diocese.
