MULTICULTURAL MINISTRIES

Part of becoming Beloved Community — where all people may experience dignity and abundant life and see themselves and others as beloved children of God — makes multicultural ministry essential in the Diocese of Washington.  For this reason, the diocese is committed to providing resources, collaborative opportunities and support for multicultural parishes and initiatives.

A Multicultural Congregation is defined as:

  • less that 80% of any single ethnic/racial/cultural group
  • a specific concern for and attention to its multicultural identity
  • a vision that includes growth in diversity through congregational development and evangelism

The Diocese of Washington is blessed to count nearly a third of its churches as multicultural.

Latino/Hispanic Ministry

Latino/Hispanic Ministry is one of the most exciting areas of growth in the Diocese of Washington. Our six Spanish language congregations seek to provide a spiritual home to people of many countries and cultures. We strive to live, work and celebrate together in the love of God that transcends all diversity. Learn More

Multicultural Awareness of Gifts, Inc.

Multicultural Awareness of Gifts, Inc. (MAGI) is a group of diocesan clergy dedicated to deepening diversity in their parishes. Since 1995, MAGI members have met to share best practices and leadership models with the hope of broadening and deepening the diversity of their parishes.

If you are interested in participating in MAGI or strengthening your multicultural ministries, please contact the Rev. Dr. Anne-Marie Jeffery, Canon for Congregational Vitality
