Hunger Fund Walk 2011
Episcopal Diocese of Washington
Diocesan - Hunger Fund Walk 2011
Diocese of Washington Hunger Walk 2011
Walking at beautiful Lake Artemesia & Indian Head Rail Trail
Sunday, October 16, 2011, starting at 1:30
Encourage your church to participate in this year’s Diocesan Hunger Walk. This event is extremely important for the Hunger Fund, and we hope to make it fun and rewarding for all.
We’re hoping you will coordinate basically three things for your church’s participation in this year’s walk:
- recruiting walkers/runners through word of mouth, bulletins, newsletters, etc.
- helping folks get to and from the walk; and
- coordinating participants' collection of pledged funds after the walk.

Support your Diocesan Hunger Fund. Get people to sponsor you for walking, and the money goes to the Hunger Fund. Every penny then goes to organizations, like those listed below, to feed the hungry. Raise funds by getting sponsors to contribute if you walk. The funds you raise will be get great deals on food for the hungry!
- 1 pound of food, including meat, vegetables, canned goods, etc. is provided for less than $6
At Joe’s Place Food Pantry of Christ Church, Durham - 1 breakfast, including pancakes, bacon, grits, cereal, cheese, juice, coffee, costs under 78¢
At Kwanzaa Kitchen of St. George’s, DC - 1 large bag of groceries, again including meat, vegetables and canned goods, costs less than $1.32
At the Food Pantry at Christ Church, Port Tobacco - 1 lunch, including meat, potatoes, vegetables, dessert, tea, costs $2

- Sign-up sheets. If you need additional signup sheets, please make copies.
- Directions to the start of the walk.
- A form to be used in sending in the monies collected from the Walk. Please use that form, rather than the regular Diocesan remittance form, for the Hunger WALK monies only. That helps us to keep the Walk funds separate from other donations, so that we can tell how much money the Walk generates.

If you have a pretty good idea by the Sunday before the Walk of the number of walkers you’ll be sending to the Indian Rail Trail Walk, and have the time to contact Eric or Joan Shoemaker (301-392-3921), it would be very helpful. Please contact Lee Mericle at 301-434-6635 for the number of walkers you will be sending to the Lake Artemesia walk.
It is important for participants to bring their sign-up sheets/maps with them to the walk. We'd really appreciate it if folks would bring them with them because we use these to get a rough idea of how much has been pledged for the walk and how many people are contributing.
The walks are approximately 5K or 10K, depending on how far you decide to walk. Hats and sunscreen are advisable. The walks will start at 1:30 from the designated starting points (look for signs and registration tables). Please get there promptly to hear any last minute announcements.
