Southern Africa Partnership

The Southern Africa Partnership Committee (SAPC) was formed in early 2004 to coordinate the Episcopal Diocese of Washington's newly created partnership with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

The Anglican Church of Southern Africa includes the countries of Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and the island of St. Helena. The initial five-year partnership ended in 2009 and has been renewed by both sides for another five years with the priorities of:

  • Theological Education
  • Youth
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Social Development

We offer Washington-area Episcopalians the chance to become involved and share their time, talents and treasure. Please read more about our active and fulfilling partnership and consider how you and/or your parish will become involved. With the power of one and the contributions of many, we aim to support, share and exchange with our brothers and sisters in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

Let's Plant a Garden!

The Bishop's Children to Children Appeal for 2011-2012 will help children in the Diocese of Niassa (Mozambique) plant gardens to help feed their families. Learn more and download activities and a brochure on our Plant a Garden page.

Season of Creation

The Anglican Church of Southern Africa has created a six- Sunday African worship program that celebrates God's creation. The Season of Creation liturgies focus on biodiversity, land, water, climate change, need not greed, and caring for God's creation. They are approved liturgies for use – and they are perfect for Ordinary Time. Learn more or download the Season of Creation booklet.

Southern Africa Partnership Committee

The Southern Africa Partnership Committee (SAPC) meets monthly to support the Episcopal Diocese of Washington’s partnership with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. We support and encourage parishes and individuals who are engaged in partnership activities, we share information with the diocese about Southern Africa, and we welcome and host visitors from the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

When the partnership began, then-Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane said, "We cannot choose our human family and we cannot choose our Christian family either. Our job is to recognize that we belong to God and we belong together."
