OUR MISSION

"To strive for justice and peace among all people,
and respect the dignity of every human being, with God's help."
(The Book of Common Prayer, p. 305)

Five times a year Episcopalians reaffirm the promise of the Baptismal Covenant. As the disparity between rich and poor grows around the world and the intensity and proliferation of violence increases as a global issue, our call as Christians prevents us from retreating from the world.

The goal of the Commission on Peace is to develop and apply a Christian understanding of world affairs and to present the findings to parishes in the diocese through workshops, forums, educational publications, and pilgrimages to areas of concern.

TO EXAMINE selected issues and problems—national or global—that endanger peace, threaten social disruption, or produce inequity and injustice.

TO ILLUMINATE the moral and ethical dimensions embodied in these difficult problems and our Christian obligations with regard to them.

TO RESPOND to these issues with the call of the Baptismal Covenant and the Vision Statement of the Diocese of Washington.
