The Southern Africa Partnership Committee (SAPC) was formed in early 2004 to coordinate the EDOW's newly created partnership with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (formerly known as the Church of the Province of Southern Africa, or CPSA). The partnership was created to support the Anglican church's unity in addressing the important challenges that all Anglican Christians agree require the church's attention, including:
At the time of its founding, CPSA Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane said, "We cannot choose our human family and we cannot choose our Christian family either. Our job is to recognize that we belong to God and we belong together."
