Southern Africa—the countries along the southernmost coast of the continent—is a land of stark contrasts. Great natural beauty contrasts with terrible poverty. High rates of preventable and treatable disease contrast with the low availability of necessary medications. Abundant joy contrasts with scarce resources.

The countries encompassed by the Anglican Church of Southern Africa—Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and the island of St. Helena—are among the world’s most afflicted. HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis devastate families and communities. Poverty and lack of education keep young people from rising out of the dire circumstances in which they grow up.

The challenges and need in southern Africa are great. The opportunities to serve and assist our brothers and sisters in the region are at least as great.

We offer Washington-area Episcopalians the chance to become involved, donate time and money as they are able through the special partnership formed in 2003 between the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

After reading about our work here on the Website, we hope you will join us. With the power of one and the contributions of many, we aim to support our brothers and sisters in southern Africa in their efforts to enjoy good health and greater prosperity.

Children to Children Advent 2007

Due to your generous response last year, more than a 1,000 people in the village of Dukatole were given emergency aid following a devastating fire that took 400 homes. Your contributions supplied food, stoves, mattresses and re-building supplies to those who lost everything.

We hope you will once again join us in celebrating the season of Advent by giving the gift of hope through the "Children to Children" campaign! Your contributions will support the work of Beauty Bala, an everyday hero who provides care and support to children and people living with HIV/AIDS in Siyaphila township in South Africa. Beauty lovingly cares for more than 30 young children and babies, 20 of whom have HIV. Your Advent gift will help her feed and clothe them.
