The Southern Africa Partnership Committee (SAPC) was formed in early 2004 to coordinate the Episcopal Diocese of Washington's newly created partnership with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

The Anglican Church of Southern Africa includes the countries of Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and the island of St. Helena.  The initial five-year partnership ended in 2009 and has been renewed by both sides for another five years with the priorities of:

  • Theological Education
  • Youth
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Social Development

We offer Washington-area Episcopalians the chance to become involved and share their time, talents and treasure. Please read more about our active and fulfilling partnership and consider how you and/or your parish will become involved. With the power of one and the contributions of many, we aim to support, share and exchange with our brothers and sisters in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

Swaziland Bears
The Bishop’s Children to Children Swaziland Bear Project benefits orphans and their caregivers in Swaziland.  Some of the caregivers, mostly grandmothers, have formed themselves into a cooperative and knit teddy bears, which they sell to support their families.  Learn more and download a storybook, activities, and order form on our Swaziland Bear Project page.

Season of Creation Book CoverSeason of Creation
The Anglican Church of Southern Africa has created a six- Sunday African worship program that celebrates God's creation. The Season of Creation liturgies focus on biodiversity, land, water, climate change, need not greed, and caring for God's creation. Bishop Chane has approved the liturgies for our use – and they are perfect for Ordinary Time. Learn more or download the Season of Creation booklet [pdf].
