[Back to index of May 2007 articles] Cathedral’s new parking garage is now open Washington Window Washington National Cathedral's new car parking garage is now open for visitors.
The garage, which has been under construction since July 2005, was officially opened to the public late last month and will add more than 400 new parking spaces on the close. An 18 space bus garage also is open. The visitors' entrance to the car garage is marked by a new traffic signal on Wisconsin Avenue, between Massachusetts Avenue and Woodley Road. Visitors pull a ticket upon entrance and pay upon departure using a pay station machine. Rates vary, but are $3 per hour or $12 per day Monday though Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The garage opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m., daily. The underground structures are designed to help address the shortage of off-street parking in the area. Surface parking spaces on the close are reserved for employees of the diocese and close institutions until at least 3:30 p.m. on normal business days. Parking fees will be subject to D.C. parking taxes and the proceeds will defray the construction and operating costs of the garage. More information about the garage is available at www.cathedral.org/cathedral/visit/parking.shtml or by contacting parkingInfo@cathedral.org or 202/537-5513. [Back to index of May 2007 articles]
