and Procedure (top)

The Episcopal Relief and
Development Fund is a national grant program for domestic and international
grants for relief, rehabilitation and development serving people in
need. Grants may be submitted for either Episcopal or secular organizations.
There is no requirement that the organization be Episcopal or have
an Episcopal affiliation. However, as the Diocese must endorse and
recommend the application, a relationship with or community knowledge
of the organization is highly recommended. |
|
Grants are awarded in varying
amounts, from $10,000 to up to $100,000 per organization, and there
are two grant cycles: Spring and Fall. Grant applications may be obtained
from the ERD Web site
and office, and must be submitted to the New York office by their
spring and late summer deadlines. |
|
Each application must
have an endorsement letter from the bishop of the corresponding diocese
and have completed the form making the diocese responsible for securing
all reports. In order to accomplish this, the diocese must collect
all applications and have them reviewed by an outside grant reviewer,
who in turn submits his/her notes and recommendations to the bishop
for consideration. The bishop then reviews the notes and the grants
and composes letters of support for submission to the ERD office.
Because both the grant reviewer and the bishop must have time to collect,
consider and endorse the applications, the diocesan office publicizes
a deadline of one month prior to the ERD
office deadline for submissions to Church House. |
|
Once the reviewer and the
bishop have considered and endorsed the grant request, the letter
and the completed additional form will be attached to the application
and sent to the ERD office in New York by the deadline. |

Based on information listed above, the diocese must receive your application
at least one month before the deadline in the National ERD office in New
York so that both an independent grant reviewer and the bishop have time
to study, consider and complete the application. Sometimes the independent
grant reviewer may pick up on some missing information that would be vital
to the ERD office; so submitting in time for consideration is to both
the applicant's and the diocese's benefit.
Please submit applications by deadlines listed below. If the day falls
on a weekend or holiday, then submit by the closest business day after
the date.

How Awards are Disbursed (top)
The ERD office in New York will notify organizations directly, in writing,
of their application status, with a copy to the diocesan office. The ERD
office will send a check for the awarded amount to the diocesan office,
which in turn will forward it to the appropriate organization. Grant awards
usually take several months to process.
