Sign Language Interpreters How to Obtain a Sign Language Interpreter 1. Create an Email list from the enclosed list of interpreters. 2. When you have need of a sign language interpreter, have the event, date, time, place and approximate length of the event ready. 3. Be sure to begin your search at least two weeks ahead of the time. 4. Send an Email to your list of interpreters giving them the information in #2. Tell them your preferred mode of response, e.g. phone or Email. If you prefer phone be sure to give them the phone numbers where they can reach you. 5. The interpreters will respond with their availability and rates. Fees and Other Helpful Information Interpreters often charge a minimum of two hours. That is, they are paid for two hours even if they do not work for two full hours. Anything over two hours may, depending on the interpreter, be prorated. The list below also has an agency listing in case you can't find an individual interpreter who is available for the day in question.
