Consultants
(top)
Click
here for a list of consultants (top)
Fund-raising consultants can provide important services for congregations
especially in the area of capital campaigns for the construction of buildings
or the creation of an endowment. These services may include: assisting
with the development of a case statement for a campaign; assessing the
congregation’s readiness for a campaign and its financial resources;
training the congregation to make fund-raising calls; and helping the
congregation’s leaders run the campaign. In addition fund-raising
consultants often provide help with integrating a capital campaign with
the annual giving effort and any planned giving initiatives the congregation
may want to begin or has already started.
As with any outside contractor congregational leaders
are encouraged to interview more than one possible consultant, check references
and be clear about what it is that a fund-raising consultant will be asked
to do in the congregation. Fund-raising consultants that work with churches
understand the importance of the spiritual in raising funds for the ministry
and mission of the church. The congregation has the responsibility to
define those aspects of mission and ministry that will be served by a
particular fund-raising effort, as well as being committed to giving to
it.

The Episcopal Network for
Stewardship (TENS) (top)
Based in Wichita, Kansas, TENS
strives to lead through the growth of a network of dedicated stewardship
ministers serving congregations and dioceses through the Episcopal Church.
TENS works to support the members of that network with personal consultations
and fellowship opportunities as well as print, video and electronic resources.
The Diocese of Washington is a corporate member of the
TENS network. As a result, its regular newsletter Networking
is available to all congregations in the diocese. In addition, a number
of its other resources, including "A Treasure Chest of Stewardship
