The Second Century Fund
Purpose
The Second Century Fund is the name of the legacy society of the Diocese of Washington.
The Fund is an honorary society created to thank all those who have made a financial commitment in their estate plans to further the ministry of their local congregation, the Diocese of Washington, or an Episcopal institution. The Second Century Fund also provides an opportunity for donors to give witness to their faithful stewardship in providing for the future life and ministry of the church. This witness encourages others to support future ministry too.
Becoming a Member
You are invited to become a founding member of the Second Century Fund. To do so simply complete the enrollment form enclosed with this brochure or posted on the diocesan website. All those who enroll by March 31, 2005 will be considered founding members and honored at an inaugural reception on May 1, 2005.
If you are already a member of a congregation's, or an institution's legacy society we also invite you to join the Second Century Fund. This requires no new commitment on your part.
Please complete the enrollment form and indicate your present membership for our records. The Second Century Fund is an important supporting vehicle for congregations, schools and other institutions that help encourages these organizations to stay connected with their donors.
Benefits of Membership
By allowing your name to be added to the roll of the Second Century Fund your gift will stand along side others as a witness now and to future generations. You will have looked beyond this life and planted the seeds of ministry for future generations.
Mission
The name of this legacy society looks forward to the second century in the life of the Diocese. Created in 1895, the first century of the Diocese of Washington was a time of extraordinary growth. This growth provided a rich variety of opportunities for spiritual nurture and development, the education of young people both academically and in the Christian faith and life. During this time the needs of the poorest of our brothers and sisters were addressed locally, nationally and internationally. During its first one hundred years the Diocese has been a grateful beneficiary of a number of bequests that have sustained mission and ministry and empowered the work of the Diocese.
The Second Century Fund celebrates the support given through bequests and life income funds to the Diocese. These gifts will become the essential and enduring building blocks of the mission and ministry to which God calls the Diocese of Washington today and tomorrow. Those who make such gifts in each generation are the stars that guide us to a vision of the work that will bring forth the rule of God.
