Shepherd (Wales)
In Welsh, a nativity scene is called a llechi. This unusual set is made entirely of fine-grained Welsh slate. The unpainted slate, with its unexpectedly rich luster and detailed carving, reflects the light and gives the figures a silvery sheen. This llechi is very traditional in style and was voted the people's favorite at the 2004 exhibit (the last time it was displayed). This shepherd with his staff leans toward the Child.
