Mary (Equador)
This figure of Mary is from a terra cotta nativity
handmade in Ecuador. Notice that she is hollow and has tiny feet and an
expressive face. She is dressed in traditional clothing of the region.
She is wearing a white hat with black stripes on the inside of the brim,
resembling a "rayed" halo. Her black gown is incised with textured
stripes. It has a textured gold collar, a doubled, diamond-patterned green
sash and stylized floral decorations on the red sleeves. Her long hair
is pulled back into a ponytail and secured with patterned red "fabric."
