Holy Family
& Angel (Mexico)
This gold nativity from Mexico was created entirely from scrap pieces of newspaper. The pieces of paper were soaked in a glue and water solution and formed over wire armatures to create each figure. Note the twisted wire loops which form the hands of the figures. The faces, hair and headdresses are made from paper, papier-mâché and fiber. The Christ Child wears a caped garment reminiscent of a religious vestment. A huge angel with unfurled wings and open arms welcomes the world to come see the Child.
