Mary (Mexico)
This figure is from a vivid carved wooden nacimiento made in Oaxaca and decorated with magic markers! Mary has a long lantern-jawed orange face. Her long arms and halo have been carved separately and attached with tiny nails. The front of her gown has been elaborately “embroidered” in a stylized floral pattern which resembles local textiles. A “potted plant” fills the entire front of her bodice.
