Mary and the Christ Child (Colombia)
These figures are from a nativity purchased from a market in Bogota in 1987. This set is in the style of Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero. His "trademark" is the use of lushly rounded figures. Mary wears a pale pink ribbon tied around her throat. The naked Child lies on a bed of straw with a slightly crumpled blanket beneath Him. With his chubby legs drawn up, he nurses from a baby bottle, complete with measurements on the side!
