Joseph and the Christ Child

These figures are from a modern, abstract nativity made of stone-like ivory clay with a dark brown overglaze. The Christ Child is depicted as lying in an unusual triangular manger, which may represent the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Especially striking, the figure of Joseph is represented by only a few simple folds of clay, depicting the sweep of his drapery, with no facial features.
