Mary (Boznia)
This figure is part of a nativity created by a Croatian wood carver who belongs to an artist's cooperative founded by Serb, Croatian and Muslim women widowed by the recent war. They come together to share skills by creating goods to help supplement their income, as well as to attempt to heal the terrible wounds of ethnic strife. Carved from a native wood, this figure has simple, almost abstract, shapes further enriched with delicate carving. Note Mary's minute facial features.
