These figures are from a nativity that was made of clay in Oaxaca, and features figures notable for their joyful expressions. The figure of the Christ Child rests on a hummock of grass at the base of an elaborate flowering tree, representing the tree of life, symbolizing the hope for humanity's rebirth through His birth. This tree is decorated with leaves, buds, full-blown flowers and a dove, which gazes down at the Child. The buds and flowers symbolize both the present and the future, while the dove represents the Holy Spirit.
