Episcopal Diocese of Washington

Engaging a changing world with
an enduring faith in Jesus Christ

Regional Assemblies

A regional assembly is an annual meeting of each of the eight geographic regions of the diocese. The meeting is a time for governance, learning, and fellowship. Each meeting is attended by the bishop and members of diocesan staff and also by the clergy, wardens, and delegates from all congregations within the region. Sometimes the meetings for smaller regions are combined.

Offices open for election include Diocesan Council,  the governing board of the diocese which meets monthly; Standing Committee, which serves as an advisory board to the bishop and must approve decision relating to property, and alternate deputies to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church.

Our canons provide that if a warden is also a delegate, the vestry may appoint an additional delegate so the parish has full representation at the regional assembly. If this is the case for your parish, please be sure that the person you've selected as an alternate is reflected in our records. A list of delegates, alternates, and wardens can be found here.
