Prayers for Stewardship
O God, in whose every creation we discover a gift freely given: help us to understand
that all we have comes from the outpouring of your generosity, inspire in our hearts a
deep sense of gratitude, and move us to share what we have received with the same
immensity of spirit in which it was given. May our gifts of substance and service be an
example of Christ’s enduring presence and outreach to this community and all beings.
O Lord, Giver of Life and Source of Freedom
We know that all we have is received from your hand
Gracious and loving God
You call us to be stewards of your
Abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted to us
Help us always to use your gifts wisely
And teach us to share them generously
Send the Holy Spirit to work through us
Bringing your message to those we serve
May our faithful stewardship beat
Witness to the love of Jesus Christ in our lives
We pray with grateful hearts in Jesus name.
Abundant God, you made us in your image and breathed in us a spirit of generosity that is both gift and response. Move us, we pray, to give as we have received-abundantly, generously, and joyfully that our common ministry my ever bear witness to your unfailing grace. In the name of the Three in whom we are One, Amen.
O God, I resolve to put You first in my life.
I recognize that You have blessed me with all that I have and all that I am.
As your steward, I resolve to sacrifice when necessary but always to do so out of a spirit of sincere love, just as your Son, Jesus, did for me.
I humbly accept the challenge to share from my means rather than from my excess.
I recognize that being a good steward is nothing more than being truly Christian.
Dear God, I resolve, to be generous with my time, talent and treasure, giving in proportion to the gifts I have been given.
I commit myself to taking care of my body and all of creation.
I know there will be times when I will fall to be a good steward, but I pledge to keep on trying.
I will confidently live each day with a spirit of true peace and joy in knowing that I am doing your will.
Oh Lord, giver of life and source of our freedom, we are reminded that Yours is “the
earth in its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it.” We know that it is from your
hand that we have received all we have and are and will be. Gracious and loving God,
we understand that you call us to be the stewards of Your abundance, the caretakers of
all you have entrusted to us. Help us always to use your gifts wisely and teach us to
share them generously. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love of Christ
in our lives. We pray this with grateful hearts in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Loving God, I come to you in thanksgiving, knowing that all I am and all that I have is a
gift from you. In faith and love, help me to do your will. I am listening, Lord God.
Speak your words into the depth of my soul, that I may hear you clearly. I offer to you
this day all the facets of my life, whether it be at home, at work, or at school—to be
patient, to be merciful, to be generous, to be holy. Give me the wisdom and insight to
understand your will for me and the fervor to fulfill my good intentions. I offer my gifts of
time, talent and possessions to you as a true act of faith, to reflect my love for you and
my neighbor. Help me to reach out to others as you my god have reached out to me. Amen.
O Lord, giver of life and source of freedom, I know that all I have received is from your
hand. Gracious and loving God, You call us to be stewards of Your abundance, the
caretakers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us to always use Your gifts wisely and
teach us to share them generously. Send the Holy Spirit to work through us, bringing
Your message to those we serve. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love
of Jesus Christ in our lives. We pray with grateful hearts, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
O, God, our loving Creator and Giver of all good gifts, bless our parish, strengthen our faith and
grant us the spirit of Christian stewardship so that we may give generously of our time, talent
and treasure to spread Your kingdom here in our church and throughout the world. For this, we
pray to the Lord.
Lord, God, Creator of the universe, we thank you for the gifts, talents and abilities You have
given to each of us. These are represented by the treasure we are about to collect and offer at the
altar, and by the personal commitments of time and talent that are being made. May these gifts
enable us more effectively to carry out the mission of the parish and the mission of the church in the world. For this, we pray to the Lord.
All that we are, all that we have, and all that we will become is a gift from God. May Christians
everywhere recognize the need to respond with gratitude to God’s many gifts. For this we
God created the world and everything in it. As stewards of this world, may we work toward a
deep appreciation of all creation, respect for all human life, preservation of the environment, and development of this world through noble human effort, we pray……
God calls each of us—clergy, religious, lay person; married, single; adult, child—to play a
unique role in carrying out the divine plan. In answering that call, may Christians everywhere
become good stewards of their personal, God-given vocation, we pray….
A Collect for Stewardship
Gracious God, giver of all we have and hold as stewards; grant the people of this church
a deep and abiding awareness that all things come from you – our health, our incomes,
our jobs, our talents and our generous impulse. Send your Holy Spirit to help us as we
swim against the rising tides of materialism, envy, individualism and greed in our culture.
When we are tempted to think of money as a private matter, remind us that you have asked for part of what we are given, to be returned to you as a symbol of our awareness that you give all we have. And further, help us to help each other in this grace of giving, for you are the lover of our souls and call us to nothing less than transformation in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for the Provision of Finances
Blessed are you, Lord God of the Universe, for you create out of the cosmos this fragile
earth and give life to it. You maintain our lives with the spark of our heartbeat and the
growth of food from the earth. How can we do anything but respond by giving back a
portion of our blessings to the life and ministry of the Church, your body on earth? Help
us to be less afraid of vulnerability and thereby to loosen our death-grip on our money.
Help us to see clearly the inequality in our world and to respond by giving through your
body, the Church. Amen.
Prayer for the Provision of Time and Talent
Father, you breathed life into humanity and gave us various gifts and talents by which to
live and move and have our being. Forgive us when we fall into the temptation of thinking
that time and talent are made by us. Help us to see that our salaries and our hard work come only because of your provision of life and health and creativity. Help us as we struggle against a culture in which “time is money.” Help us to give ourselves as you did, even unto the cross. May your self-offering be our model and may your love be our encouragement. Amen.
Prayer for Those Leading Stewardship Ministries
Lord Christ, you held your ground as you communicated a message amidst support
and amidst the rejection of your message. Give to us who lead stewardship ministries
the strength to help our church to discuss that which it would rather ignore. Help us
to speak openly about money, time and land as gift. Help us to respond to a culture
for whom greed is nothing more than a scream of fear; so that our work is not merely
fundraising, but is rather a pastoral ministry to a people weighed down by a spiritually
deadly combination of abundance and fear. Amen.
Prayer for Use by a Vestry regarding Stewardship
Heavenly Father and Creator of all we enjoy, we give you thanks for the countless
people who have gone before us in the leadership of this church. We know that the
Holy Spirit inspired some as they longed for this church, others as they built this church
and still others as they lovingly and boldly led this church through times of abundance
and times of scarcity. Help us to be bold as we model giving of time and money to this
parish. Make our bold and generous pledge a symbol of both our integrity and our
gratitude. Then help us to encourage giving with one sixth of what we do and say, just
as you did while physically teaching among your disciples. Amen.
Prayer for Use by Children Regarding Stewardship
Jesus, we love you and we know you love us. Everything we have is a gift from you.
Thank you for play time and for our growing bodies. Thank you for our laughter and
our joy. Help us to give some of our time and some of our money back to you. When we
think of giving something away to someone who needs it, help us to give two and not
just one. Amen.
Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola
Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will,
all I have and call my own. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours; do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace;
that is enough for me.
A Prayer for Vision
Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves; when our dreams have
come true because we have dreamed too little; when we arrived safely because we
have sailed too close to shore. Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of the things
we possess, we have lost our thirst for the water of life. Stir us, Lord, to dare more
boldly, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show your mastery; where losing
sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our
hopes and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope and love. Amen.
Open your hearts to the love God instills in them. God loves you tenderly. What he
gives you is not to be kept under lock and key, but to be shared. The more you save
the less you will be able to give. The less you have, the more you will now how to
share. Let us ask God, when it comes to ask God for something, to help us to be
Mother Teresa—In My Own Words
To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything he has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him. Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.
Stewardship Prayer - Thomas Merton
Almighty God, we thank you for all the gifts You have given us: our lives, our loved ones, all that we have and all that we are. Most of all, we thank You for Jesus, your Son and our Redeemer, who came among us to show us the way to eternal life. Jesus was the perfect steward of your gifts, showing that complete trust in You is necessary, and that giving of self is a most important part of following Him. May the offerings of our time, our talents, and our material resources be made in the same spirit of sacrifice that Jesus taught us by His life and death for us. Amen.
