Making a Retreat
The diocese offers two opportunities a year for a silent weekend retreat at the peaceful 300-acre Bon Secours retreat center near Marriottsville, MD. Beginning on a Friday evening through to noon on Sunday, these retreats are designed to be an opening for individuals to deepen their relationship with the Divine, in an environment that is peaceful, quiet and relaxing.

Loyola's Mission is to serve men and women who are striving to be conscious of God's action in their lives and world. Inspired by the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius, Loyola's ministry focuses on deepening faith and commitment to justice.
All Saints Episcopal Convent (women only)
All Saints Convent is run by very traditional Episcopal Sisters, located between Washington and Baltimore. There is a guest wing for women who would come as individuals seeking silent retreat. Programmed retreats come through other venues. Not available for groups.
Bon Secours Spiritual Center
Ministering to Mind, Body, and Spirit, the retreat team provides a variety of experiences including workshops, seminars and days of prayer for both individuals and groups. Spiritual directors are available by prior arrangement, and ongoing individual and group spiritual direction are significant ministries of the Bon Secours Spiritual Center. Individuals come to the Center to simply pray in the beautiful chapel, walk the Labyrinth, use the meditation garden, sit by the pond with its Japanese Zen Garden island or enjoy the extensive grounds and nature at its finest.
Bishop Claggett Center
Owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, the center encompasses a 277 acre Frederick County working farm situated on a bluff overlooking Sugarloaf Mt. and the scenic Monocacy River Valley. Claggett is in operation throughout the year, hosting retreats and conferences for a wide variety of guests. The Claggett Center also offers youth programs, including summer camps, year round conferences, and a variety of programs for adults. Claggett is less than an hour from the Washington or Baltimore Beltways.
Pendle Hill (Quaker community)
Pendle Hill, founded by Quakers in 1930 offers spiritually renewing programs for people of all faiths throughout the year. Themes include spiritual life, Quaker faith and practice, religious study, social concerns, bodywork, literature and the creative arts. Every program includes opportunities for spiritual refreshment, relaxation in a lovely setting, intellectual stimulation, participation in a vibrant community, and good conversation with people from around the country and world.

Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center

This ecumenical retreat house has a long tradition of integrating spirituality and action for social justice. Located just over the gorgeous Delaware Water Gap, the site boasts comfortable accommodations and beautiful vistas. $57-78 per night per person. Programmed as well as private retreats.
The Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth
The Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth offers a variety of retreats and programs, including training programs for spiritual directors, all based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. These retreats and programs are offered to individuals and groups from around the globe both at our own facility, which is a place of natural beauty and welcoming quiet, and at other locations determined by the changing needs of our clientele and of the contemporary church. All of our services help people to find the way of Jesus Christ in our world.
Today women comprise a large percentage of the spiritual directors as well as the retreat participants. Over the past 30 years, female colleagues have collaborated with the Jesuits as full time staff members. Their unique contribution to the spirit and ministry of the center is greatly appreciated.
We welcome Catholic and other ecumenical groups who are looking for a beautiful setting to conduct their own group meetings.

The Diocese of Virginia Retreat center at Roslyn
A Retreat Center of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia , this center is located on 150 scenic acres in Henrico County, Virginia, two miles west of the City of Richmond on the James River. Roslyn welcomes more than 400 churches and non-profit organizations every year for residential conferences, retreats and seminars, day-only meetings and picnics. Individuals can often find space Monday-Thursday.
Dominican Retreat House
Dominican Retreat is open to anyone seeking spiritual renewal and prayer. The programs are available to individuals of all ages, faiths, and from all walks of life. Young and old, married and single, Catholics, as well as those of other religious faiths, all attend our programs.

The Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration and a Conference Center for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia

Shrine Mont is a Diocese of Virginia conference and retreat center and home of the diocesan cathedral. Located about 2 hours from the capital beltway, the facility is in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley and can accommodate up to 550 people on 1,200 acres. Shrine Mont is open from the beginning of April through early November and serves a diversity of groups from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region including parish retreats/weekends, diocesan camps, numerous conferences and families on vacation.
The Well Retreat Center
Available to individuals and groups, The Well provides programs and available space for groups who desire to meet their own programmatic needs on retreat.
St. Anselm's Abbey
Do not offer organized retreats for groups - bring your own leader. "Directed retreats" in the Ignatian style can be arranged. Limited availability for women to stay overnight. Call for details.
Washington Retreat House
A Franciscan Sisters of Atonement Retreat House, the WRH, is located on Harewood, across from Catholic University/next to John Paul II Cultural Center, groups would be welcome during the week. No private retreats available.
Friends Wilderness Center

>On the western side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Friends Wilderness Center is a 1400 acre wilderness preserve supported by the Quakers. It offers a place to "relax, renew, and recharge" through outdoor activities such as stargazing, hiking, meditation, or campfires. The center includes a tree house, ponds, yurt, accomodations for camping, and cabin.

Priestfield Pastoral Center
Supported by the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling and Charleston, these facilities are available for ecumenical educational, formational , spiritual experiences. Situated on a large wooded property along the Opequon Creek, the overall serenity of the property is complimented with well-maintained walking trails through the woods and along the creek, water gardens, outdoor decks and patios providing many choice places for quiet reflection. Rooms with private baths and hermitages are part of the facilities.
