Retreat Centers

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10

Retreats are an opportunity to dwell in a “place apart” from daily life and work, an intentional period of time to slow down and reflect. Though there are many kinds of retreat (individual/communal, directed/undirected, etc.), a retreat usually includes periods of silence and still, meditative prayer and may also include periods of activity and study.

By removing ourselves from the familiarity of our usual patterns or surroundings, retreats allow us space to connect with God and God’s creation, to receive the spiritual light and food that God is always offering to us and that we are often too busy to receive.

No matter what season of life you find yourself in, a retreat can be just what you need in order to be refreshed and re-energized.

Diocesan Retreat Committee

The Diocesan Retreat Committee offers an opportunity a year for a silent weekend retreat at the peaceful 268-acre Claggett Center in Adamstown, MD. Beginning on a Friday evening through to noon on Sunday, these retreats are designed to be an opening for individuals to deepen their relationship with the Divine, in an environment that is peaceful, quiet and relaxing.

For more information on these and other retreats, consult the event listing on this page or contact the Rev. Lesley Krauland.

Retreat Centers

The following is a list of some of the retreat centers we are aware of within driving distance of the Washington Metro Area including Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, and West Virginia. As you plan, we encourage you to think about your preferred retreat experience and research what each retreat center may have to offer.
