Children, Youth & Family
The Children, Youth & Family Ministry supports our parishes in their mission to help children, youth, and families to grow spiritually. At the diocesan level, we offer youth and their families the opportunity to have a transforming encounter with Jesus Christ so that they can grow in their relationship with him and share Jesus’ love in their everyday lives.

Children are a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is a gift. — Psalm 127:4 (Book of Common Prayer)
The Church is called to receive, nurture and treasure each child as a gift from God; to proclaim the Gospel to children, in ways that empower them to receive and respond to God’s love; to give high priority to the quality of planning for children and the preparation and support of those who minister with them; to include children, in fulfillment of the Baptismal Covenant, as members and full participants in the Eucharistic community and in the church’s common life of prayer, witness and service. The diocese supports ministry with children and their parents by curating resources for formation in the congregation and in households and gathering leaders committed to ministry with children. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years. — Luke 2:52
The Church is called to support youth as they grow in their life in Christ, walking faithfully with young people as they transition from child to young adult. Ministry with youth is a bridging ministry that calls for passion, patience, and faithfulness – pointing out the sacred in the midst of the chaos of adolescence. The diocese offers resources for choosing church school curriculum, studying the Bible, learning about Confirmation and helping those committed to ministry with youth and parents to respond to the questions and challenges that arise in the lives of the young people in their care. All diocesan events are designed to complement and enhance formation opportunities at the parish level. The Children, Youth, and Family Ministry also equips and serves our youth and family leaders by providing opportunities for fellowship, networking and training. Learn More
The Diocese of Washington is committed to welcoming and protecting the well-being of all children and youth to participate in activities at our congregations. Toward this end, we have established the following Standards for Youth and Children's Ministries. These Standards are rooted in our Baptismal Covenant and seek to embody our commitment to safeguard the children and youth who are entrusted to our care. Learn More.
Gathering of Leaders
Formation/Mission Clusters are gatherings designed for leaders responsible for children, youth, and youth ministries. These leaders may be lay or ordained, compensated or volunteer. Our intention is to gather leaders who oversee Christian formation for these age groups within the parish community. For more information contact Mildred Reyes, Missioner for Diocesan Initiatives.
