The diocese maintains two companion relationships with churches in the Anglican Communion.
The Southern Africa Partnership Committee (SAPC) was formed in early 2004 to coordinate the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (EDOW)'s partnership with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (ACSA) Anglican Church of Southern Africa. When the partnership began, then-Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane said, "We cannot choose our human family and we cannot choose our Christian family either. Our job is to recognize that we belong to God and we belong together."
The Jerusalem Partnership Committee facilitates the diocese's relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East, which operates through dozens of parishes, numerous schools and institutes of learning for children K-12 and adults, and several clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation centers. The school and medical facilities serve Muslims, Christians and people of all faiths throughout Palestine and the Occupied Territories of the West Bank and Gaza, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
